Surprise for retiring partner
|
Bourne & Co partner Derek Hawes had a surprise in store at Burton Albion’s home game against Woking.
Derek is retiring from Bourne & Co after 44 years, 38 of them as a partner. At the game he was presented with a Burton Albion shirt signed by all of the players. The surprise had been organised by members of Bourne & Co’s staff.
The shirt was presented to Derek by Nigel Clough, the Burton Albion manager and son of the late Brian Clough, before the game against Woking , which Bourne & Co were sponsoring.

New sports kit for Bourne & Co
Bourne & Co recently gave their new sports kit a try out with a tournament against clients at JJB Sports in Derby. The six-a-side game ended in an honourable defeat but undeterred the team will be back soon to take on another challenger.

Bourne & Co, Chartered Accountants with offices in Burton-on-Trent and
Derby have launched a new website with some new resources and features.
Bourne & Co partner, John Delaney, said, “We have listened to the feedback we received from our old site and have made the new site easier to navigate around. We have also added details of some of the industry sectors in which we specialise. We have also included a client spotlight section to focus on some of the interesting things that our clients are doing”.

Help for amelca shareholders
Bourne & Co, Chartered Accountants in Derby & Burton have produced a report into the procedures and timing of the tax claims in respect of losses incurred by the shareholders in amelca plc. A large number of local farmers and investors lost money following the collapse of the company but a number of tax reliefs are available to help mitigate the losses.

'New' face at Derby office
Following the retirement of Phil Shelton after 38 years with the firm, partner John Delaney has moved to the Derby Office of Bourne & Co.
John, who had been at the Burton-on-Trent office of Bourne & Co for 25 years said,"I would like to wish Phil all the best for his retirement and hope that he gets plenty of time to improve his golf. It will be a great challenge to get to know a lot of new faces in the Derby area and to extend our client base throughout the Midlands."

Bourne & Co wish Olivia good luck at the Commonwealth Games 2006
Bourne & Co are sending their best wishes with their employee Olivia Murphy, the England netball captain as she leaves for the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia. England are drawn in a group with New Zealand, South Africa, Malawi, Fiji and St Vincent and the Grenadines. Their first game is on Friday March 17th.
Olivia, 28 from Stretton, has been to two other Commonwealth Games, returning from Kuala Lumpur with a bronze medal in 1998 and narrowly missing out on bronze in Manchester in 2002. She currently plays her club netball withLoughborough Lightning in the figleaves.com Netball Superleague
All the partners and staff at Bourne & Co will be following Olivia and the rest of the team as they go on their medal quest.
Olivia said,"I am excited about going out to the Commonwealth Games and I am looking forward to coming back and showing everybody my medal"

Burton Chartered Accountants Bourne & Co are celebrating after being appointed as auditors and advisors to Branston Golf and Country Club.

Branston Golf and Country Club opened in 1994 and has developed into a top leisure facility. Its facilities include an 18 hole parkland golf course, a nine hole course, floodlit driving range, club shop, swimming pool, gym, two fitness studios, bar and a hair and beauty salon.
The club's managing director Andrew Gentles said, "I am pleased to be in a position to transfer our business to a well respected local practice which has demonstrated to us considerable enthusiasm and a desire to understand the needs of its clients".

Sports Department Launched
Bourne & Co have just launched their new specialist sports department for professional sportsmen and women.
The head of the department, Mark Nutt, said "Having looked after the tax affairs for professional footballers I realised that the specialist knowledge I had accumulated could be tailored to meet the needs of sportsmen and women across a range of different sports".

Accountants named AVN ‘Firm of the Year’

Small Business Rate Relief
Many small businesses are eligible for Small Business Rate Relief from 1st April 2005.
The Relief is available to businesses that occupy a property with a rateable value of less than £10,000
To check the rateable value of your business go to
www.voa.gov.uk
and enter your postcode.
Businesses must apply each year and the application must be submitted to the local authority within six months of the end of the financial year to which it relates.
